If you already hold a category C licence and wish to upgrade to a Category C+E
then look no further, BCDT will train you to a very high standard so that
you will pass your test with ease.
You will soon be taught to master the art of reversing a trailer into a tight space. You will be taken out onto the road and there you will be taught how to position the vehicle on corners and roundabouts and also about consideration for other road users when driving a large vehicle. You have a choice of either a Articulated Vehicle or a Lorry and Drawbar Vehicle, either will give you a Category C+E Licence. Once you have passed your test, you will then able to apply for a job as a Class 1 driver with a possibility of earnings up to £40.000 plus a year.
You will be examined on your general driving and on set exercises.
The set exercises will include:
An 'S' shaped reverse into a bay demonstrating the uncoupling and recoupling procedure with a trailer. You will be required to drive following a route for up to 10 minutes unaided by the examiner.
The drive on the road lasts up to 60 minutes and the overall test takes about 90 minutes. During the driving test the examiner will give you directions which you should follow. Test routes are designed to be as uniform as possible and will include a wide range of typical road and traffic conditions.
Throughout the test you should drive in the way your instructor has trained you. If you make a mistake, don't worry, it might be a less serious driving fault and may not affect your result. The examiner will be looking for an overall safe standard of driving. You can make up to 15 faults and still pass the test (16 or more results in failure). However, if you commit one serious or dangerous fault you will fail the test.
